The Backstage Girls
The backstage girls are silent, apprehens-
ively half-nudging one another, bash-
fully, perhaps, more likely miming pass-
ionate performances with grim and sense-
less energy. They do not lack bravad-
o, nor that talent bred in them to tit-
ivate the jaded and the parasit-
ical, as those who wait on them with hard-
ened arteries. Now straining, every swoll-
en muscle tugs and tussles while the tass-
els twitch and flinch to tape-recorded cas-
tanets: these stir the soulless and the ol-
eaginous into arthritic ferv-
our, as the nerveless bodies curve and swerve.
