Air Force

Our voices scramble
at the first shock of voice

over the tannoy of each
other's lives.

I was waiting for you
in the sky
with a ribbon of cloud
and a parachute.

The air waves
are whipped up

by the welter of
waiting tears.

I was watching at
six o'clock
for eagles to fly
out of bandit sunlight.

We flew
through the empty dusk

as high as
kites, dreams, lovers.

The universe waits
for us
with its wide arms
always open.
